TAKE FIVE

I am trying to develop
a new habit
that in my mind
I call
"take five".

And no,
I'm not taking five minutes
to rest when I do it.

I have a bad habit
of not putting things
back where they belong.
Then before I know it,
my kitchen table is a mess
or the counters are so full
that I can't put my grocery bags down.

So while I'm waiting for something,
like the water to boil for my tea
or
for my dogs to finish eating,
I'm "taking five" -
I pick up five items that need to be put
back in their home
and put them where they belong.

And sometimes,
I "take ten".

This is working for me now,
but I hope it encourages me
to develop the habit
of putting things back
where they belong
so that in the future when I
"take five"
it means I can go sit on the swing and knit.

Blessings to all who visit here,
Lynn

  1. The kitchen is the messiest place here. My counters are just magnets for the junk. I do try to pick them up at the end of the day, but some days it is just a disaster.

  2. Great idea, Lynn - I think we all have a "gathering" place for our things - this would help keep them neat.

  3. Great post! I think I need to take five or ten. The kitchen which used to be organized, is a total mess. When I got Holly and she was young, she would get everything she could. Soon, I started stacking things on the counters and the stacks kept growing. There is no where to put anything now and I look at the mess and go back into another room. I would like to call that number got junk and have them come here and just take almost everything away and start over. Not Holly though...and she has outgrown taking everything away that she can get her mouth on! Love, Debbie

  4. This sounds like it's working for you. Good work Lynn!! Reporting on my weight loss as of today: I had a few pigouts but am holding at between 9 & 10# lost for now. WooHoo! X-Cassie

  5. That is a good idea! There is always something sitting around that needs to be put back in my house, too. I have started trying to make the most of my time in small ways. For example, this weekend, I was waiting for the washing machine to finish spinning. (I happened to be near and noticed it was almost done, I wasn't just WAITING for it, haha.) I looked down and realized that I could scoop out the litter box real quick while I waited and BAM - multi-tasking! Not the glamorous kind or anything, but still. Things like that, I'm trying to be more cognizant of around the house.

Hope you have a wonderful day!
